Traditionally speaking, "naturally dilapidated" are not two words that initially come to mind when thinking of a wedding reception. [the venue's words, not mine] BUT and it's a big BUT... MC Motors is no ordinary reception venue. It is there to be loved and there to be appreciated. And for me, it's been on my bucket list for a very long time.
It's located in E8 London, and is a 6000 square foot industrial unit. The building has seen various uses, most recently as a garage MC Motors, the name that current owners Joyce & Steven, decided to keep. It turns out that Joyce & Steven used to own Castle Gibson Antiques on Upper Street in Islington, at the same time I was doing my student placement at Olympic Holidays whose office was in Cross Street, so I will have passed their shop regularly! Plus Joyce is a fellow scouser, and as a Northerner living down South, it's great to hear northern twang, especially one from my home town!
The building itself is flooded by natural light from the glass skylights that cover the entire area. In fact after the blitz in WW2, a lot of the area was bombed out. Post war, the glass roof was put over several buildings to create one big space. The roof even goes over an original Victorian street. It's the most interesting venue I have been to and is full of curiosities. And, because the building is so large, the antiques are equally as big. They have some incredible props available to hire - including gigantic illuminated stars! If you want it, they can source it!
So what makes this space so good for weddings?
Well, the space, for starters. With all the areas available, you have plenty of space for reception drinks, dinner and then plenty of dancing. It lends itself to a laid-back chic party, where anything goes and there are no traditional rules to adhere to. To me, that makes for a perfect wedding venue.
Joyce can help you with suppliers, so anything you need can be catered for. And of course we can be there to decorate the ceiling space with our bunting, or with anything else you might want to hang from the roof.
If I'm honest, the building's uniqueness is so incredible, having simple bunting is actually all you need to decorate this space. The beauty is all in the building itself. There are few buildings like this around, so if industrial chic is your thing, then MC Motors is definitely the one for you.
Here are a few before and after photos with a mix of our white ALICE bunting with our plain hessian OLI bunting. And allow me a little time to sit down and relax after all that "Uppey and Downey" on the ladder. [didn't Stephen Fry famously ask Robert Downey Jr to call his new child "Uppey" on the Graham Norton Show?]
Finished job in a few seconds.....
